De Raíz — by the root. Because that's where everything begins.
Gardening wasn't something I grew up with. It found me as an adult, during a season of life when I needed somewhere quiet to land.
What surprised me was how simple it was — not easy, but simple. You show up, you pay attention, you care for something small. And slowly, without asking much of you, things grow. The noise of everything else fades out.
I became a gardener by accident. I stayed because of what it gave me — and what it keeps giving me every time I'm in the soil.
That calm is what I want to help you find in your own garden. A space that's yours, that grounds you, that asks nothing more than your presence.By day I am Creative Director in the digital world — and that eye doesn't turn off when I step outside.
Years of thinking as a graphic designer, about composition, colour, texture and space have given me a particular way of seeing a garden — not for what it is, but for what it could become. I'm always imagining the next version of a space, visualising combinations and concepts before a single thing is planted.
That's what you'll find on my Instagram — original garden concepts I create as a way of dreaming out loud. Follow along for inspiration, and reach out when you're ready to bring some of it into your own garden.
De Raíz is rooted in Portland, Oregon. The PNW has a particular relationship with gardens — the rain, the mild winters, the way things grow here with an ease you don't find everywhere. This is the place I learned to garden, and it's the place I want to help you garden better. Whether your space is a shaded backyard under a Douglas fir or a sunny south-facing front yard, this is home ground for both of us.
